![]() ![]() “Their going rate for increased exposure on Houzz is about $3,500 a year, and for a small designer that’s a big financial loss," says Laurie Laizure ($3,500 per year would net out to just under $300 per month, so somewhere between one and two Pro Plus zones). Designers say that most of the leads coming in through the service present unrealistic budgets or simply want to get a quote before embarking on a project themselves. Petition signees, though, feel that the return on investment for an interior designer advertising their services through Pro Plus is minimal. “People mark photos they like and then notice that many of them are mine, and they see that commonality and reach out saying, ‘I saw this pattern and I thought I’d give you a call,’” says Abrams. ![]() It’s my joy to see designs come to fruition at construction, but most importantly to watch them grow and thrive for years to come."For somebody in New York to say, 'I want to work with a Chicago designer is amazing,'" says Abrams, who believes his activity and large following give him a leg up outside his Pro Plus zone (Abrams has also secured clients from Seattle, Baltimore, and New York through the site and has fielded inquiries from locales as far-flung as Dubai). I’ve been honored to work with some amazing clients over these past 15 years in business. I have seen him standing on a wall in the rain to make sure the trees were being planted correctly…high praise from us. When a project is underway he is always ready to make sure the installation is going well. His designs have reflected the character of the site and building. He is thoughtful, thorough and knowledgeable of the plant material that is available and suited to the design. Richard has worked on three different projects for us over almost a 20 year period. We are looking forward to another great project with him. It was a pleasure working with him so much so that when we built our vacation home there was no question who would be responsible for the property. He managed every single step of the installation – it was a common sight to see Richard on the property with a shovel or laser level, ensuring every detail was executed perfectly. He brought on a very talented team to build retaining walls, hardscapes, a custom gunite pool and spa, a complete outdoor kitchen, pergolas, heated walkways and extensive landscaping and garden beds. I was expecting something great, but he exceeded every expectation in both the design and execution on what ended up growing to be a fairly large project. Again, Richard stays on top of the job and we are pleased with the results.Īfter seeing a published project Stewart Hass & Associates designed in the Detroit area I called to have Richard make sense of the three acres surrounding our freshly-built home farther up north. All aspects of the job installation were thorough, clean and professional. This past fall Richard implemented a redo of the landscaping going around the perimeter our home. The plant material was mature, healthy and the landscape company that Richard works with are excellent. The entire process from plant material selection, design, installation and completion was very well orchestrated. Richard created a beautiful natural woodland garden (100′ x 40′) that spans across the front of our property. Some of our clients have been gracious enough to review our work and relationship, and I’d like to share a few here. It’s a great spot to find ideas and inspiration if you’re planning projects that involve design and construction. ![]() If you’ve not visited the site – we recommend it.
